Belize is a country that is rich in natural treasures. It is the last remaining country in Central America with largely untouched forests, thriving endangered species, and one of the largest living barrier reefs in the world. Xunantunich, a Mayan site, is a driving force for Belize’s economy, bringing in 15 million dollars annually, but much about the site is still unknown. Relations between Belize and neighboring Guatemala are tense due to historical disagreements about ownership and access to resources. Belize is also home to several wildlife preserves, including ones for howler monkeys, iguanas, and jaguars. The author visits Guava Limb, a restaurant in San Ignacio, Belize and has a great experience eating coconut shrimp. They then visit the iguana sanctuary, and after a hot walk up the hill, they get to see iguanas up close.
