Checkout Mashpi Lodge, Ecuador Watch Video

Ecuador is not any stranger to ecotourism. As a one of a handful of countries which has ecotourism as its centerpiece, we inevitably need to review Mashpi Lodge, which is the country’s most well-known ecolodge for all the right reasons.

You can easily describe some eco-resorts and lodges as rustic, while others are more polished and edgy in a contemporary sense. This sits at the more modern luxury end of that scale but uses earth tones to become part of the landscape rather than against it. The sleek modern lines do, however, contrast with the deep cloud forest setting high on the plateau where you can look out from immersive glassed windows.

Saisataibility has been integrated into the design from the ground up and from building materials to hydroelectric power. The lodge is designed to blend beautifully with its surroundings. IF you are looking for a deeply immersive natural experience, this is a good choice to restore yourself to a more original state.

The location of Maspi Lodge is Closer to Quito than the Amazon rainforest. You can see this on the adjacent map. The lodge sits on a reserve by the same name which occupies 2,500 acres. Howsoever, in many ways, this location offers a more immersive rainforest/cloud forest experience than the Amazon. You will find more than 400 species of birds, for example. And if frogs are your thing, you will find satisfaction at every turn on the waterfall walks. There is even a Dragonfly Canopy Gondola. Mashpi Lodge only accommodates 44 guests in a cloud-lined forest.

If we have given you the impression that there are not any mammals, that’s not the case with opportunities to spot pumas, monkeys, and peccaries.

Video Review of Mashpi Lodge – This video explores Mashpi as a must-visit hotel in Ecuador. The reasons you should stay here are for it’s birding and nature walks according to the review. The added advantage is that tourism here supports the conservation of the Choco Andino Bioreserve.

Much of the ecological diversity is celebrated in the Life Center which features everything from butterflies to the local fauna from an observation tower high in the canopy.
